Fracture is where there is a break in the bone which may or may not have moved out of place. Open/compound is where the broken bone breaks through the surface of the skin. Usually but not always, the area is immobilised for around 6 weeks in order for the bone to re-unite, but some areas are very difficult to immobilise or are not necessary such as shoulder and pelvis
Subluxation is where the joint is partially out of place. This may return to position without any assistance
Dislocation is where the joint has completely come out of position and usually requires medical assistance to relocate it to its correct position
